Aristopharma’s story goes back to 1986, when M. A. Hassan formed a proprietorship firm with a simple promise: good medicines at prices ordinary families could afford. The company’s plant at Shampur-Kadamtali, about 10 km from central Dhaka, became its base. Today the head office sits in Purana Paltan, and around 7,000 people work for the business.
The product range spreads across many treatment areas. Antibiotics, antiulcerants and antidiabetics sit alongside cardiac medicines, oncology drugs, eye care products and herbal remedies. A sterile block built with Belgian engineering also lets the company make ophthalmic and injectable forms, which many local manufacturers do not offer.
In sales terms, Aristopharma is firmly among the leaders. IQVIA data placed it eighth in Bangladesh in 2023, with sales of Tk 1,211 crore. Its market share has hovered around 4 percent, a steady position in a crowded industry where the top ten firms control most of the trade.
The company looks outward as well. Exports began in 2000, with Vietnam as the first market, and its medicines now reach 31 countries across five continents. Its facilities are built to UK MHRA and USFDA standards. Going forward, Aristopharma wants a stronger place in the region’s branded generic market and more overseas partners.
