ACI Pharmaceuticals is a leading pharmaceutical manufacturer in Bangladesh and a key business concern of Advanced Chemical Industries (ACI) Limited. ACI’s story starts in 1968, when Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) set up a subsidiary in what was then East Pakistan. It was reborn as ICI Bangladesh Manufacturers Limited in 1973. In 1992, ICI sold 70% of its stake to local management, and the company was renamed Advanced Chemical Industries, or ACI. It listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange in 1976, and in 1995 it became the first company in Bangladesh to earn ISO 9001 certification.
ACI Pharmaceuticals now sells over 550 SKUs covering more than 250 molecules across almost 100 therapeutic classes. Its well-known brands include Acical, Xeldrin, Floxabid and Revital. It also manufactures French company Servier’s Daflon and Diamicron in its own plants. Over 5,000 people work for the pharma business across the country.
Pharma is one part of a larger group that also runs the Shwapno retail chain, consumer brands, agribusiness and motors. In FY2025, the pharmaceuticals segment earned about Tk 1,854 crore, within a group total of roughly Tk 13,790 crore.
For the future, ACI has talked about dry powder inhalers, human insulins and hormones. It has also planned a US FDA-compliant plant at Sonargaon to supply the American market, which would let it make export products at home.
