Acme Laboratories began in 1954, when Hamidur Rahman Sinha started a small proprietorship at Chashara in Narayanganj with around 33 workers. What began as a modest drug-making unit grew into one of Bangladesh’s oldest and best-known pharmaceutical names. Today the company runs from its Kallyanpur headquarters in Dhaka and has been publicly listed since 2016.
The company makes far more than standard tablets. Its range covers human medicines across many therapeutic areas, along with veterinary products, ayurvedic and herbal remedies, and nutraceuticals. Creams, ointments and vitamins sit beside its core formulations, and the portfolio now exceeds 800 products.
Several brands carry the business. Monas, a montelukast-based medicine, leads the list, while Famiclav, Maxima and Ecosporin are also widely recognised by doctors and pharmacists. Together with its wider portfolio, they helped the company reach annual revenue of roughly Tk 32 billion in its latest reported year.
Acme is also a serious exporter. In the 2025-26 fiscal year it ranked second among allopathic medicine exporters, shipping goods worth Tk 401.85 crore. Approvals from WHO, USFDA, UK-MHRA and TGA Australia support that reach. Looking ahead, it is investing in active pharmaceutical ingredients, steroid, hormone and penicillin lines, and high-tech products for global markets.
