156 generics · 373 brands
Synovia Pharma is a very new name for a very old company. Its story began in 1958, when the British firm May & Baker started working in what was then East Pakistan. After a string of mergers involving Fisons, Rhône-Poulenc and Hoechst Marion Roussel, it became Sanofi Bangladesh in 2013. In October 2021, Beximco Pharma bought a 54.6% stake, and on 1 April 2022, the company was renamed Synovia Pharma PLC.
The company still makes and sells Sanofi medicines locally. Its best-known names include Pevisone, Amaryl, Flagyl and Epilim, and it is strong in heart disease, diabetes, cancer, skin and nervous system treatments. It also imports Sanofi’s global brands, including vaccines, insulins and chemotherapy drugs. About 100 branded generics come from its own range.
Production takes place at a 25-acre site in Tongi, Gazipur, which includes a cephalosporin antibiotic plant that can be certified under PIC/S standards. More than 800 people work for the company. According to IQVIA data, it recorded about Tk 283 crore in sales between April 2024 and March 2025.
Looking ahead, Beximco’s plan is to keep Sanofi’s medicines flowing while adding more products to the portfolio. It also wants to introduce Sanofi’s future global brands in Bangladesh, which it says will help Beximco reach a wider market.
