Prioxim DS PFS Powder For Suspension

Prioxim DS PFS is indicated for the treatment of:

• Urinary tract infections.
• Otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
• Acute bronchitis and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis.
• Uncomplicated gonorrhoea; typhoid fever.

Bactericidal; blocks bacterial cell-wall synthesis.

Dosage and administration of Prioxim DS PFS:

• Adults: 200-400 mg daily as one or two doses.
• Children: about 8 mg/kg daily; follow the label for age-wise doses.
• Reduce dose in severe kidney impairment.

Prioxim DS PFS may interact with:

Warfarin (higher bleeding risk); probenecid raises cephalosporin levels; nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides need kidney monitoring.

Prioxim DS PFS should not be used in:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

Possible side effects of Prioxim DS PFS:

• Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash.
• Rare: severe allergic reaction, Clostridioides difficile colitis, blood disorders.

Pregnancy category: B

Use of Prioxim DS PFS in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Considered acceptable in pregnancy and breastfeeding when needed.

Precautions while using Prioxim DS PFS:

• Check for penicillin or cephalosporin allergy before use.
• Reduce the dose in kidney impairment.
• Prolonged use can cause overgrowth of resistant organisms.
