Leprox Powder For Suspension

Leprox is indicated for the treatment of:

• Upper respiratory tract infections including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis and otitis media.
• Lower respiratory tract infections.
• Uncomplicated urinary tract and skin infections; gonorrhoea.

Bactericidal; blocks bacterial cell-wall synthesis.

Dosage and administration of Leprox:

• Adults: 100-200 mg every 12 hours with food; gonorrhoea 200 mg as a single dose.
• Children: 8-10 mg/kg/day in two doses.
• Reduce dose in kidney impairment.

Leprox may interact with:

Antacids and H2 blockers reduce absorption; probenecid; nephrotoxic drugs.

Leprox should not be used in:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

Possible side effects of Leprox:

• Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash.
• Rare: severe allergic reaction, Clostridioides difficile colitis, blood disorders.

Pregnancy category: B

Use of Leprox in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Considered acceptable in pregnancy and breastfeeding when needed.

Precautions while using Leprox:

• Check for penicillin or cephalosporin allergy before use.
• Reduce the dose in kidney impairment.
• Prolonged use can cause overgrowth of resistant organisms.
