Desixen Dispersible Tablet

Desixen Dispersible is indicated for the treatment of:

• Chronic iron overload due to repeated blood transfusions (for example in thalassaemia).
• Iron overload in some non-transfusion-dependent conditions.

Binds excess iron in the body so it can be removed in the stool.

Dosage and administration of Desixen Dispersible:

Adults and children: tablets for suspension 20 mg/kg once daily (film-coated tablets 14 mg/kg), adjusted every 3-6 months by serum ferritin; specialist-directed.

Desixen Dispersible may interact with:

Aluminium antacids, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, anticoagulants (stomach bleeding risk), repaglinide, theophylline.

Desixen Dispersible should not be used in:

• Reduced kidney function (eGFR below 40).
• Poor general condition, advanced cancer or low platelet count (below 50 x 10^9/L); hypersensitivity.

Possible side effects of Desixen Dispersible:

• Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, rash, raised creatinine.
• Serious: kidney failure, liver failure, stomach bleeding.

Pregnancy category: C

Use of Desixen Dispersible in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Avoid in pregnancy unless clearly needed.

Precautions while using Desixen Dispersible:

• Monitor serum creatinine, liver function and ferritin regularly; hearing and eye checks.
• Take on an empty stomach or with a light meal.
