Cefurxet Tablet

Cefurxet is indicated for the treatment of:

• Pharyngitis, tonsillitis, sinusitis and otitis media.
• Bronchitis and pneumonia.
• Urinary tract infections.
• Skin and soft tissue infections; early Lyme disease; uncomplicated gonorrhoea.

Bactericidal; blocks bacterial cell-wall synthesis.

Dosage and administration of Cefurxet:

• Adults (oral): 250-500 mg twice daily after food; gonorrhoea 1 g as a single dose.
• Injection: 750 mg to 1.5 g every 8 hours under medical supervision.
• Reduce dose in kidney impairment.

Cefurxet may interact with:

Warfarin (higher bleeding risk); probenecid raises cephalosporin levels; nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides need kidney monitoring.

Cefurxet should not be used in:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.

Possible side effects of Cefurxet:

• Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash.
• Rare: severe allergic reaction, Clostridioides difficile colitis, blood disorders.

Pregnancy category: B

Use of Cefurxet in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Considered acceptable in pregnancy and breastfeeding when needed.

Precautions while using Cefurxet:

• Check for penicillin or cephalosporin allergy before use.
• Reduce the dose in kidney impairment.
• Prolonged use can cause overgrowth of resistant organisms.
