Ceftoren Tablet

Ceftoren is indicated for the treatment of:

• Pharyngitis and tonsillitis.
• Uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections.
• Community-acquired pneumonia and flare-ups of chronic bronchitis.

Bactericidal; blocks bacterial cell-wall synthesis.

Dosage and administration of Ceftoren:

Adults: 200-400 mg twice daily with food for 5-14 days; reduce in kidney impairment.

Ceftoren may interact with:

Warfarin (higher bleeding risk); probenecid raises cephalosporin levels; nephrotoxic drugs such as aminoglycosides need kidney monitoring.

Ceftoren should not be used in:

• Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
• Carnitine deficiency; milk protein hypersensitivity (contains caseinate).

Possible side effects of Ceftoren:

• Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, rash.
• Rare: severe allergic reaction, Clostridioides difficile colitis, blood disorders.

Pregnancy category: B

Use of Ceftoren in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Considered acceptable in pregnancy and breastfeeding when needed.

Precautions while using Ceftoren:

• Check for penicillin or cephalosporin allergy before use.
• Reduce the dose in kidney impairment.
• Prolonged use can cause overgrowth of resistant organisms.
