Apexid Tablet

Apexid is indicated for the treatment of:

Uncomplicated cystitis (lower urinary tract infection).

Bactericidal; blocks bacterial cell-wall synthesis.

Dosage and administration of Apexid:

Adults: 400 mg initially, then 200 mg three times daily for 3-7 days, with plenty of fluid, sitting upright.

Apexid may interact with:

Methotrexate (higher levels), warfarin, probenecid.

Apexid should not be used in:

• Penicillin allergy.
• Carnitine deficiency; oesophageal strictures; porphyria.

Possible side effects of Apexid:

• Nausea, diarrhoea, rash.
• Rare: oesophageal irritation if swallowed without enough water.

Pregnancy category: B

Use of Apexid in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Considered acceptable in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Precautions while using Apexid:

• Swallow with a full glass of water; remain upright for 10-15 minutes.
• Long courses can lower carnitine.
