Glycopyrrolate

Glycopyrrolate is indicated for the treatment of:

• Reduction of secretions before anaesthesia and with reversal of muscle relaxants.
• Peptic ulcer (add-on).
• Drooling in children with neurological conditions.

Blocks muscarinic receptors, reducing saliva, secretions and gut movement.

Dosage and administration of Glycopyrrolate:

• Premedication: 4-10 mcg/kg IM or IV.
• Reversal: 0.2 mg for each 1 mg of neostigmine.
• Peptic ulcer: 1-2 mg two to three times daily.

Glycopyrrolate may interact with:

Other anticholinergic drugs, antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants.

Glycopyrrolate should not be used in:

• Narrow-angle glaucoma, urinary retention, intestinal obstruction.
• Myasthenia gravis, severe ulcerative colitis, paralytic ileus.

Possible side effects of Glycopyrrolate:

Dry mouth, blurred vision, fast heartbeat, constipation, difficulty passing urine.

Pregnancy category: B

Use of Glycopyrrolate in pregnancy and breastfeeding:

Use only if clearly needed.

Precautions while using Glycopyrrolate:

Caution in heart disease, the elderly and in hot environments.
